Kénvegyület is the Hungarian term for a sulfur compound. Sulfur, a chemical element with the symbol S and atomic number 16, readily forms chemical bonds with many other elements, leading to a vast array of compounds. These compounds play significant roles in various natural and industrial processes.

The most common and well-known sulfur compound is hydrogen sulfide (H₂S), which is a colorless gas with a characteristic rotten egg smell. It is toxic and flammable. Sulfur dioxide (SO₂) is another important compound, a colorless gas with a pungent odor, often produced from the burning of fossil fuels and volcanic activity. It is a major air pollutant and a precursor to acid rain.

Sulfuric acid (H₂SO₄) is one of the most important industrial chemicals globally, used in fertilizer production, refining, and chemical synthesis. It is a strong acid and highly corrosive. Other sulfur compounds include sulfur trioxide (SO₃), used in sulfuric acid production, and various sulfides, sulfites, and sulfates, which are found naturally in minerals and are used in numerous applications, from food preservation to pigments.
