käytätkö

Käytätkö is a Finnish verb form used to form yes–no questions. It is the second person singular present indicative of the verb käyttää (to use) combined with the question suffix -ko/-kö. The suffix is chosen to agree with the preceding vowel of the stem according to Finnish vowel harmony, which in practice results in -kö after front vowels (such as ä) and -ko after back vowels (a, o, u).

Morphology and formation: The base present singular form of käyttää is käytän, käytät, hän/käyttää, me käytämme, te käytätte, he käyttävät. To turn the form into a question addressed to “you,” -ko/-kö is added to the 2nd person singular form: käytät + kö → käytätkö. This yields the common spelling kä-y-t-ä-t-k-ö, with the t and k adjacent in the middle. The pronoun sinä is often omitted: Käytätkö tätä? means “Do you use this?” but can also be expanded as Käytätkö sinä tätä? for emphasis.

Usage: Käytätkö is used to inquire about habitual or current usage of something, such as objects, tools, services, or practices. Examples:

- Käytätkö tätä ohjelmaa joka päivä? Do you use this program every day?

- Käytätkö kännykkääsi töissä? Do you use your cellphone at work?

- Käytätkö englantia työssäsi? Do you use English in your work?

Notes: Käytätkö is a present-tense, second-person form and is most common in spoken and written Finnish when asking about usage. In negative questions, forms like etkä or etkö may appear depending on context. The verb phrase remains tied to käyttö (use) rather than a different tense or mood.
