käyttämättä

Käyttämättä is a Finnish non-finite form derived from the verb käyttää (to use) that expresses “without using” or “not used.” It is commonly used to describe something that has not been used, or actions performed without using something else. In everyday language it can indicate that resources, plans, or procedures were not utilized.

In grammar, käyttämättä functions as a negated adverbial participle. It often appears in phrases such as varat jäivät käyttämättä (the funds were left unused) or käytettiin resursseja, jolloin osa jäi käyttämättä. It can also form compounds like käyttämättä jäänyt (left unused) or käyttämättä jätetty (left unused).
