Cymose inflorescences, on the other hand, have a determinate growth pattern, meaning the terminal flower blooms first, and subsequent flowers develop from lateral buds. This results in an older flower at the apex and younger flowers below. Examples include cymes and scorpioid cymes. Other types exist, such as compound inflorescences like corymbs and umbels, which combine elements of both racemose and cymose structures or have specialized arrangements of pedicels. The study and classification of inflorescences are important in plant morphology and taxonomy.
