Kvarcitáshoz refers to the process of forming quartzite. Quartzite is a very hard, non-foliated metamorphic rock that was originally pure quartz sandstone. Sandstone is converted into quartzite through heating and pressure usually related to tectonic compression within mountain ranges. Pure quartzite is usually white to gray, although quartzites often occur in various shades of yellow, red, pink, green, blue, and orange due to mineral impurities.

The transformation from sandstone to quartzite involves recrystallization of quartz grains. Under immense pressure and heat deep within the Earth's crust, the quartz grains in the sandstone fuse together. This process eliminates any pore space and creates a very dense and durable rock. The resulting quartzite is significantly harder and more resistant to weathering than the original sandstone.

The appearance of quartzite can vary depending on the original sandstone's composition and the geological conditions of metamorphism. While pure quartzite is a solid white, impurities like iron oxides can give it vibrant colors. For instance, reddish or pink hues often indicate the presence of iron. Greenish or bluish colors might result from minerals like chlorite or amphibole.

Due to its hardness and resistance to weathering, quartzite is often used as a building material and for decorative purposes. It can be found in natural rock formations, often as prominent hills or mountains, and is also quarried for countertops, flooring, and sculptural elements.
