Kvantens are a theoretical construct in quantum theory that denote the fundamental unit of a hypothetical kvanta field. In this framework, a kvant is the smallest discrete excitation capable of carrying energy and information. The term derives from kvant, cognate with quantum, with the suffix -ens forming a plural in some languages.

Kvantens are treated as indivisible and subject to conservation laws: they can be created or annihilated only in conjunction with other quanta. The energy of a kvant is proportional to a frequency, with a constant analogous to Planck’s constant setting the quantization scale. Interactions among kvantens can yield discrete transport, interference, and entanglement within the field.

Originating in speculative discussions of discrete-field models and lattice simulations, kvantens have not yet been demonstrated experimentally and remain primarily within theoretical or science-fiction contexts. Proponents argue that kvantens offer a compact framework for describing information flow in quantum networks and may inspire new concepts in error correction, while critics point to the lack of empirical evidence and the difficulty of embedding the idea in established physics.
