The payment typically corresponds to the daily rate used for sickness allowance during the rehabilitation period, and the duration depends on the length and progress of the rehabilitation plan. Extensions may be possible if the plan continues or changes.

Application is made to Kela, usually with medical statements and a rehabilitation plan. Kela may request additional information, and decisions can be appealed if needed. Kuntoutustuet are coordinated with sickness allowance and other social security benefits to support participation in rehabilitation and eventual return to work.
