Krvácivosti, often translated as hemorrhages or bleeding disorders, refers to a group of medical conditions characterized by an excessive or prolonged tendency to bleed. This can manifest as spontaneous bleeding, prolonged bleeding after injury, or easy bruising. The underlying causes of krvácivosti are diverse, stemming from defects in the blood clotting system, which involves platelets, plasma proteins, and blood vessels.

One category of krvácivosti involves platelet disorders. Platelets are small blood cells that play a crucial role in forming blood clots. Conditions such as thrombocytopenia (low platelet count) or platelet dysfunction (where platelets do not function properly) can lead to increased bleeding. Another significant group encompasses coagulation factor deficiencies. These are inherited disorders where specific proteins, known as clotting factors, are either absent or not functioning correctly. Hemophilia A and B are well-known examples, affecting factors VIII and IX respectively. Von Willebrand disease is another common inherited bleeding disorder affecting a protein that helps platelets stick together and also carries factor VIII.

Acquired causes of krvácivosti are also prevalent. These can include liver disease, as the liver produces many clotting factors, or vitamin K deficiency, which is essential for the synthesis of several clotting factors. Certain medications, such as anticoagulants (blood thinners) or antiplatelet drugs, can also induce or worsen bleeding tendencies. Diagnosis typically involves a thorough medical history, physical examination, and laboratory tests like complete blood count, coagulation profiles (PT and aPTT), and specific factor assays. Treatment strategies vary depending on the specific cause and severity, ranging from supportive measures like transfusions to targeted therapies such as clotting factor replacement or medication adjustments.
