Kraadiõppekavad refer to academic programs that lead to the awarding of a degree. In the Estonian higher education system, these programs are structured to provide students with specialized knowledge and skills in a particular field of study. There are typically three main levels of kraadiõppekavad: bakalaureuseõpe (Bachelor's), magistriõppekava (Master's), and doktoriõppekava (Doctoral).

A bakalaureuseõpe program is the first cycle of higher education, usually lasting three to four years. Upon successful completion, graduates are awarded a Bachelor's degree, which signifies a foundational understanding of their chosen discipline.

Following a Bachelor's degree, students can pursue a magistriõppekava, which represents the second cycle. These programs typically take one to two years and delve deeper into a subject, often involving research or advanced practical training. A Master's degree prepares graduates for more specialized roles in the workforce or for further academic pursuits.

The highest level of academic study is the doktoriõppekava, which leads to a Doctoral degree. These programs are research-intensive and culminate in the defense of an original dissertation. Doctoral studies are essential for those aspiring to careers in academia, scientific research, or high-level development roles.
