Koszykówka, also known as basketball, is a team sport played by two teams of five players on a rectangular court. The objective is to shoot a ball through a hoop, a ring 18 inches in diameter with a net hanging down, which is mounted 10 feet above the ground. Points are scored by putting the ball through the hoop. A field goal made from anywhere inside the three-point line is worth two points. A field goal made from anywhere outside the three-point line is worth three points. A free throw is worth one point.
The game was invented by Dr. James Naismith in December 1891 at Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts.
