kontinenteide
Kontinenteide refers to the Earth’s major landmasses, commonly known as the continents. In geology and geography, the term denotes the large-scale continental crust that forms these landmasses and defines their geographic boundaries against the surrounding ocean basins. The concept of kontinenteide encompasses both the physical crust and the historical and geographic arrangements of continents as they have evolved through time.
The number and delineation of continents vary by convention. The most widely taught model lists seven continents:
Continental crust is thicker and less dense than oceanic crust and is composed mainly of granitic rocks,
In science, kontinenteide are studied in geology, palaeogeography, and biogeography to understand patterns of biodiversity, climate,
