A kontaktblock, in German, refers to a modular electrical terminal assembly used to connect and terminate conductors. In English technical literature it is commonly translated as terminal block or contact block. Kontaktblocks are designed to provide a reusable, clearly labeled point for electrical connections within control panels, machines, and automation systems.

Most kontaktblocks consist of a fixed base that mounts to a frame or DIN rail, a row of conductive terminals, and a clamping mechanism for wires. Common variants use screw clamps or spring clamps to secure conductors. Many blocks feature pluggable sections that can be replaced without rewiring. Blocks may include labeling options, shielded covers, and bridging elements to link adjacent blocks.

Configurations vary by function. End blocks supply a single connection, while feed-through blocks carry conductors through the block. Barrier blocks and pluggable terminal blocks are common families. Current ratings, insulation, and pitch sizes differ across types, and blocks are selected to match conductor cross-sections and environmental conditions.

Applications include power distribution, signal routing, sensor and actuator wiring, and test points in industrial automation. They enable organized wiring, ease of maintenance, and safe disconnection of circuits during service.

Safety and installation considerations include de-energizing circuits before wiring, choosing appropriate conductor sizes, applying correct torque to terminal screws, and ensuring proper insulation and clearance.
