Kontake is a fictional city-state in a contemporary world-building project set in the eastern archipelago of Meridia. It occupies a cluster of harbors and islands, giving it a prominent maritime economy and a temperate climate shaped by the surrounding sea.

Kontake is governed by a bi-cameral council drawn from twelve guilds, with a mayor as the executive head. Its constitution protects merchants, artisans, and residents, while allowing limited autonomy within a federation of nearby city-states. The population is diverse, with Kontakean, Meridishi, and migrant communities contributing to a multilingual society.

The economy centers on shipping, fishing, shipbuilding, and port services. The harbor is among the region’s largest, supporting trade in timber, spices, ceramics, and agricultural goods. The kont is the local currency, issued by a central harbor bank. Tourism and cultural activities, especially during harbor festivals, also contribute to growth.

Kontake is known for its lively markets, harbor concerts, and culinary traditions featuring grilled fish, citrus, and spices. A coastal university offers programs in marine science, navigation, and business, complemented by vocational institutes.
