Konsistents are a theoretical construct used in computer science and philosophy to describe a class of structures or systems that aim to preserve internal coherence across multiple perspectives or states. In formal terms, a konsistent system consists of a set of propositions together with invariants that must hold under specified operations. The concept is especially relevant for reasoning about information that is gathered from distributed or partially connected sources, where different observers may hold conflicting views.

Origin and usage: The term konsistent, derived from the Dutch word for consistent, is used in theoretical discussions to emphasize distributed or multi-agent aspects of knowledge. A konsistent state is one in which all participating components agree on the values of a core set of variables, and operations that preserve these agreements are called konsistent-preserving.

Key properties: Invariants, closure under defined operations, and the decidability of core queries are central. Depending on the framework, konsistents can be finite or infinite, deterministic or probabilistic, and may allow bounded levels of inconsistency in a controlled manner.
