Komusubi is a sumo wrestling rank. It is the second-lowest of the four *san'yaku* ranks, which are the top ranks below the *yokozuna*. Wrestlers who consistently perform well at the komusubi rank may be promoted to *sekiwake* or even *ozeki*. Conversely, a poor performance can lead to a demotion back to the *maegashira* ranks. The komusubi rank is a crucial stepping stone for those aiming for the highest echelons of sumo.
