Kompuutertomograafiat, often abbreviated as CT scanning, is a non-invasive medical imaging technique that uses X-rays to create detailed cross-sectional images of the body. A CT scanner consists of an X-ray tube that rotates around the patient, emitting a narrow beam of X-rays. Detectors on the opposite side of the patient measure the intensity of the X-rays that pass through the body. Different tissues and organs absorb X-rays to varying degrees, and this differential absorption is used to reconstruct the images. A computer processes the data from the detectors to generate cross-sectional slices, which can then be viewed on a screen or printed. These slices can be viewed individually or combined to create three-dimensional reconstructions of the scanned area. CT scans are valuable for diagnosing a wide range of conditions, including injuries, tumors, infections, and vascular diseases. They are frequently used to examine the head, chest, abdomen, and pelvis. In some cases, a contrast agent, either swallowed or injected, may be used to enhance the visibility of certain structures. The procedure is generally quick and painless, though some patients may experience mild discomfort from the contrast agent.
