Kommutatoriske is an adjective form related to the commutator, a concept used in several areas of mathematics and physics to measure non-commutativity of two operations or elements. In general, a commutator captures how far two elements fail to commute.

In group theory, the commutator of two elements a and b is defined as a^{-1} b^{-1} a b. The set of all finite products of commutators forms the commutator subgroup, often denoted [G,G] or G'. This subgroup is used to quantify how far a group is from being abelian, since a group is abelian precisely when all commutators are the identity.
