Kolmiliuottimet, a term originating from Finnish, describes a specific type of multi-rotor unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) that features three rotors. Unlike the more common quadcopters (four rotors) or hexacopters (six rotors), the tricopter's design presents a unique configuration with its three propellers. This arrangement typically includes two rotors that spin in one direction and one central rotor that spins in the opposite direction, or two rotors spinning in opposite directions and one fixed.

The primary advantage of the tricopter design often lies in its simplicity and lighter weight compared to multi-rotors with more propellers. The three-rotor setup can achieve stability through the coordinated control of motor speeds and by incorporating a servo-controlled tail rotor. This tail rotor is crucial for yaw control, allowing the tricopter to rotate horizontally around its vertical axis. In some designs, the torque from the main rotors is counteracted by the differential thrust of two rotors and the opposing spin of the third, negating the need for a separate tail rotor, though this is less common.
