kolejkom

Kolejkom is a community-driven online archive and knowledge hub focused on railway transport in Poland and Central Europe. It documents history, technology, and culture of railways and aims to make materials accessible to researchers, students, and enthusiasts. The project began in the early 2010s as a collaboration among railway historians, archivists, and hobbyists and operates as a volunteer-driven non-profit.

The collection includes digitized timetables, maps, photographs, engineering drawings, and company catalogs; analytical articles and bibliographies; oral histories from railway workers; and a growing wiki-style knowledge base with terminology definitions and short essays on signaling, rolling stock, and station design. Materials are described with metadata and offered under open licenses where possible.

Kolejkom conducts digitization drives, coordinates with museums and universities, and hosts exhibitions, talks, and educational programs for schools. It is funded by donations, grants, and partnerships, and governed by a board of volunteers and an editorial committee that sets content standards and review processes.

Impact and reception: the project supports historical research, heritage preservation, and public engagement with rail culture. It remains a participatory effort, inviting contributions from the broader community.
