The bleaching of paper and textiles also commonly employs chlorine-based chemicals.

The release of chlorine from these sources into the environment can have various impacts. In water treatment, controlled addition is beneficial for public health. However, uncontrolled industrial releases can lead to air and water pollution, posing risks to ecosystems and human health due to chlorine's reactive nature.
