A klambrivoolumõõtur, also known as a clamp meter or tong tester, is an electrical testing instrument that combines a basic digital multimeter with a current sensor. The current sensor is typically a pair of jaws that can clamp around one of the current-carrying conductors of a circuit. This allows the user to measure current without having to break the circuit or make direct contact with live conductors, which enhances safety.

The clamp meter's primary function is to measure alternating current (AC). Some models can also measure direct current (DC), but this is less common. When the jaws of the clamp meter enclose a conductor carrying AC, the alternating magnetic field generated by the current induces a proportional current in the jaws, which is then measured by the meter's internal circuitry. For DC current measurement, Hall effect sensors are typically used.

In addition to current measurement, most clamp meters also include standard multimeter functions, such as voltage measurement (AC and DC), resistance measurement, and continuity testing. This makes them a versatile tool for electricians, technicians, and DIY enthusiasts. They are particularly useful for troubleshooting electrical problems in industrial, commercial, and residential settings where accessing individual wires might be difficult or hazardous.
