Kjörstuðlar refers to the voting districts or polling stations used in Icelandic elections. The term literally translates to "election support" or "election staff," but in practice, it denotes the physical locations where citizens cast their ballots. These locations are typically public buildings such as schools, community centers, or sometimes even dedicated polling stations.

The establishment and management of kjörstuðlar are the responsibility of local municipalities (sveitarfélög) under the supervision of the National Electoral Commission (Sýslumaður). The number and location of these districts are determined based on the population density and geographical distribution within each municipality to ensure accessibility for all voters. Voters are assigned to a specific kjörstaður based on their registered address.

On election day, voters present identification at their designated kjörstaður and receive a ballot paper. After marking their choice, they deposit the ballot into a sealed box. The staff at each kjörstaður are typically volunteers or municipal employees who oversee the voting process, verify voter identities, and ensure the integrity of the election. The results from each kjörstaður are then collected and tallied to determine the overall outcome of the election.
