Kipuhermosolut, also known as nociceptors, are specialized sensory neurons that detect and transmit pain signals. These free nerve endings are found throughout the body, in the skin, muscles, joints, and internal organs, but are absent in the brain itself. Their primary function is to alert the central nervous system to potential or actual tissue damage.

There are different types of kipuhermosolut, each responding to specific stimuli. Mechanical nociceptors are activated by strong pressure or pinching. Thermal nociceptors respond to extreme heat or cold. Polymodal nociceptors are the most common type and can be activated by a combination of intense mechanical, thermal, and chemical stimuli. Chemical nociceptors are triggered by substances released from damaged tissues, such as prostaglandins, histamine, and bradykinin.

When a kipuhermosolu is activated, it generates an electrical signal that travels along the nerve fiber to the spinal cord. From there, the signal is relayed to the brain, where it is interpreted as pain. This protective mechanism allows us to react to harmful stimuli, withdraw from danger, and learn to avoid situations that could cause injury.
