Kazan Federal University (KFU) is a public research university located in Kazan, in the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia. It traces its origins to the founding of Kazan University in 1804 by imperial decree of Tsar Alexander I, making it one of the oldest universities in Russia and Europe. In 2010 the institution was reorganized under the federal university program and designated Kazan Federal University, integrating Kazan State University and several affiliated institutes.
