Keskuspainotetun is a Finnish term that translates to "center-weighted" or "centrally weighted" in English. It is primarily used in the context of optics, particularly in photography and cinematography, to describe a type of exposure metering.

In photography, center-weighted metering is a compromise between spot metering and full-area averaging. It prioritizes the light in the center of the frame, assuming that the primary subject is likely located there. However, it also takes into account the light from the rest of the scene, albeit with less emphasis. This method aims to provide a more balanced exposure than spot metering, which can be overly sensitive to small bright or dark areas, while being more responsive to the main subject than full-area averaging.

When a camera uses center-weighted metering, the exposure calculation is heavily influenced by the central portion of the image sensor. Areas towards the edges of the frame contribute less to the overall exposure reading. This makes it a useful technique for situations where the subject is in the middle of the frame and the lighting conditions might otherwise lead to an inaccurate exposure with other metering modes. For example, it can be effective when shooting a portrait with a relatively uniform background or when photographing a subject against a bright sky.
