Keskkonnaväited, known in English as environmental claims, are statements made by companies or organizations about the environmental characteristics of their products, services, or practices. These claims are intended to inform consumers and stakeholders about the environmental benefits or attributes, such as being "eco-friendly," "biodegradable," "recycled," or "energy-efficient." The purpose of making environmental claims is often to appeal to environmentally conscious consumers, enhance brand image, and differentiate products in the market.

However, the validity and accuracy of environmental claims are subject to scrutiny. Misleading or unsubstantiated claims, often termed "greenwashing," can deceive consumers and undermine genuine environmental efforts. To address this, various regulations, standards, and certification schemes have been developed globally. These aim to ensure that environmental claims are truthful, verifiable, and specific. Examples include ISO standards for environmental labeling and claims (ISO 14020 series) and governmental regulations that prohibit deceptive advertising. Independent third-party verification is often sought to lend credibility to these claims. Consumers are increasingly encouraged to look for credible certifications and evidence to support environmental assertions.
