Keskisuihkunäyte, meaning "mid-stream urine sample" in English, is a common method for collecting a urine sample for diagnostic purposes. This technique aims to obtain a urine specimen that is less contaminated by bacteria or cells from the skin and the initial part of the urinary tract.

To collect a keskisuihkunäyte, the individual is instructed to begin urinating into the toilet. After a small amount of urine has passed, they then position the sterile collection container to catch the main flow of urine. Finally, they complete the urination into the toilet. This process ensures that the collected sample represents the urine produced further up in the urinary bladder, thus providing a more representative sample for analysis, such as for detecting urinary tract infections or other medical conditions. Special care is taken to avoid touching the inside of the container with fingers or clothing. This method is widely used in both clinical and home-based urine collection scenarios.
