keriss

Keriss, also known as Keiriss or Kerisses, is a municipality in the Chumphon Province of southern Thailand. With a total area of approximately 184.6 square miles, it is one of the largest districts in the province.

Located at the southern part of Chumphon Province, Keriss borders the districts of Lang Suan to the north, Hua Hin to the east, and Dan Mae to the south. To the west, it borders the Krabi Province. The terrain of Keriss is characterized by rolling hills and mountains, with the highest point at approximately 1,330 feet (406 meters) above sea level.

The municipality is divided into 14 sub-districts, with the town of Baan Keris serving as the administrative center. The population of Keriss is predominantly rural, with the majority of residents engaged in agriculture, fishing, and animal husbandry. Tourism has been growing in the area, with attractions such as waterfalls, caves, and beaches.

Economy in Keriss is largely driven by agriculture, with rice being the main crop. Fishing and aquaculture also contribute significantly to the local economy, with several fish farms operating in the area. The region's natural resources have been harnessed to generate electricity, with several small-scale hydropower plants operating on the several rivers flowing through the municipality.

Keriss has a tropical climate with two main seasons, the wet season from May to October, and the dry season from November to April. The region's wildlife includes species such as the Asian black bear, the clouded leopard, and several species of birds and reptiles. Efforts have been made to protect the environment and wildlife in the area.
