Kenttäbusverkkoihin, often translated as fieldbus networks, are industrial communication systems designed for real-time data exchange between control devices and automation equipment in factories and process plants. Unlike traditional point-to-point wiring, fieldbus networks use a single serial cable to connect multiple devices, such as sensors, actuators, and programmable logic controllers (PLCs). This significantly reduces wiring complexity, installation costs, and potential points of failure.

These networks operate at the field level, meaning they connect devices directly on the plant floor or in the process environment. They are characterized by their deterministic nature, ensuring timely and predictable data transmission, which is crucial for control applications.
