Kazettákra, often translated as "on tapes," refers to the practice of recording or storing audio or video information onto magnetic tape cassettes. This method was widely popular throughout the latter half of the 20th century. Audio cassettes, most notably the Compact Cassette format, revolutionized personal music listening and recording. Users could easily record music from the radio, create mixtapes for friends, or make personal voice recordings. Similarly, videocassettes, such as VHS and Betamax, allowed for home video recording and playback of movies.

The technology behind cassettes involves a thin strip of magnetic tape wound around spools within a protective casing. Information is encoded onto the tape by magnetizing tiny particles, which can then be read back by a playback device. While offering convenience and accessibility, cassette technology had limitations. Sound and picture quality could degrade over time with repeated use, and tapes were susceptible to physical damage.

The advent of digital media, including CDs, DVDs, and later digital streaming, gradually led to a decline in cassette usage. However, in recent years, there has been a niche resurgence of interest in cassette tapes, particularly among audiophiles and collectors who appreciate their analog warmth and retro appeal. This revival has led to new releases of music and even some experimentation with cassette-based recording technology.
