Karriget is a small locality situated in the municipality of Mörbylånga within Kalmar County, Sweden. It lies on the eastern coast of the island of Öland, roughly midway between the town of Mörbylånga and the historic site of Borgholm. The name Karriget is derived from Old Norse, suggesting a meaning related to “field” or “open meadow,” although the exact etymology remains debated among linguists.

Historically, Karriget has been a modest settlement primarily engaged in agriculture and forestry. Archaeological surveys indicate that the area has been inhabited since the Bronze Age, with a series of burial mounds and stone circles discovered in adjacent fields. During the Middle Ages, the community was part of a larger estate owned by the Kalmar royal family, and it served as a minor provisioning point for travelers moving between the island and the mainland.

In the 19th and early 20th centuries, Karriget experienced gradual growth due to the expansion of the forestry industry on Öland.
