Kansaneläke, or national pension, is Finland's basic form of social security for residents with low income and limited pension entitlements. It is paid by the Social Insurance Institution of Finland (Kela) and forms part of the country's basic security (perusturva). The purpose is to guarantee a minimum level of income, especially for pensioners and people with long-term illness or disability who have little or no earnings-related pension.
