Kaasutilat, often translated as "gas facilities" or "gas installations," refers to the infrastructure and locations where natural gas is handled, processed, stored, or distributed. This encompasses a wide range of facilities critical to the energy supply chain.

At the upstream end, kaasutilat include wellheads and associated equipment at natural gas extraction sites. Midstream kaasutilat are crucial for transportation and often involve compressor stations that maintain pressure in long-distance pipelines, as well as processing plants where raw natural gas is purified and separated into its components. These plants remove impurities like water, carbon dioxide, and sulfur compounds to meet pipeline quality specifications.

Downstream kaasutilat are involved in the final stages of distribution. This can include liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals for importing or exporting gas, where it is cooled to a liquid state for easier transport. It also involves regasification plants that convert LNG back into its gaseous state. Furthermore, local distribution networks rely on regulating stations that reduce gas pressure to safe levels for residential and industrial use, and storage facilities, such as underground caverns or depleted gas fields, to ensure a consistent supply, especially during periods of high demand. The safe and efficient operation of all these kaasutilat is paramount for reliable energy delivery.
