Középosztály is a Hungarian term referring to the middle class. It describes a socioeconomic group situated between the working class and the upper class. Historically, the concept of a middle class emerged with industrialization and the growth of professions that required specialized skills and education, such as merchants, managers, doctors, and lawyers.

In Hungary, the definition and characteristics of the középosztály have evolved over time, influenced by political and economic changes. During the communist era, the concept was less pronounced due to a more egalitarian social structure and the suppression of private enterprise. Following the transition to democracy and a market economy, a distinct middle class began to re-emerge, characterized by stable employment, property ownership, and access to education and cultural goods.
