Järjekonnast refers to the concept of a queue in computer science. It is a linear data structure that follows the first-in, first-out (FIFO) principle. This means that the first element added to the queue is the first one to be removed. Imagine a line of people waiting for a service; the person who joined the line first will be the first to be served.

In a queue, elements are added at one end, typically called the rear or tail, and removed from the other end, known as the front or head. The primary operations associated with a queue are enqueue, which adds an element to the rear, and dequeue, which removes an element from the front. Other common operations include peeking, which allows viewing the front element without removing it, and checking if the queue is empty.

Queues are widely used in various computing applications. They are fundamental to operating systems for managing processes and I/O requests. Network protocols often employ queues to handle data packets. In simulation modeling, queues help represent waiting lines and resource allocation. They are also used in algorithms like breadth-first search (BFS) for traversing graphs and trees. The FIFO nature of queues makes them suitable for scenarios where order of processing is critical.
