Järgiaegne refers to a historical period in Estonia that follows the Viking Age. This era is generally considered to begin around the early 11th century and extends until the Danish conquest in the early 13th century, marking the beginning of the Middle Ages in the region. The term "järgiaegne" translates roughly to "after the Viking era" or "post-Viking period."

During the järgiaegne, Estonian societies continued to develop their social structures and economies. While the direct influence of Scandinavian Vikings waned, trade and cultural exchange with neighboring regions persisted. Fortified settlements, known as *linnused*, remained important centers of power and defense. Archaeological evidence suggests continued agricultural development and craftsmanship, with increased social stratification becoming more apparent.

This period is characterized by the growing presence of external powers, particularly those from Scandinavia and later, German principalities, who were increasingly interested in the Baltic Sea region for trade and expansion. While Estonia was not yet politically unified, regional leaders and tribal groupings exerted influence over their territories.
