jollakku
Jollakku is a traditional Tamil percussion instrument. It belongs to the family of frame drums and is characterized by its cylindrical wooden body, often made from jackfruit wood. The drumhead is typically made from animal hide, stretched taut over one or both ends of the cylinder. Jollakku is played with the hands, and the player can produce a variety of sounds by striking different parts of the drumhead and body. The pitch and timbre can also be altered by applying pressure to the drumhead or by using a stick or mallet.
Historically, the jollakku has been an integral part of folk music and religious ceremonies in Tamil Nadu.
