JaRepresentatiivisuuden, often translated as "representativeness" in English, is a key concept in statistics and sampling. It refers to the degree to which a sample accurately reflects the characteristics of the population from which it was drawn. A representative sample is crucial for making valid generalizations and inferences about the entire population.

The goal of sampling is to select a subset of individuals or data points from a larger set in such a way that the sample mirrors the population's diversity. If a sample is not representative, it is considered biased. Bias can arise from various sources, such as non-random selection methods, undercoverage of certain population groups, or measurement errors.

Achieving representativeness often involves employing appropriate sampling techniques.
