Isotherminen is the Finnish term for the concept of isothermal conditions or processes. It describes states or changes in which temperature remains constant.

In thermodynamics, an isothermal process is one where the temperature of the system does not change during a state change. For an ideal gas, PV = nRT, and if T and n are constant, the product PV remains constant while P and V adjust inversely. Maintaining isothermality typically requires heat exchange with the surroundings.

Isotherms are curves or lines of equal temperature on diagrams or maps. On pressure–volume or temperature–volume diagrams they represent constant temperature. In meteorology and geosciences, isotherms connect locations of equal temperature at a given height or depth.

Applications of isothermal conditions occur in chemistry and materials science, such as isothermal crystallization or curing, and in industrial processes that require consistent temperature control. Geothermal studies use isotherm maps to model heat flow and subsurface temperature distributions.

Origin and usage: The term isothermal derives from Greek iso- “equal” and therme “heat,” with the Finnish suffix -minen forming an adjective relating to isothermality. In Finnish scientific literature, isotherminen and related forms are used to describe experiments or regions where temperature remains fixed or is mapped as a constant across space.
