Ioonilisi is a fictional city-state and cultural hub created for world-building and speculative fiction. Located on the southern coast of the archipelago of Lyrion, it is depicted with a temperate maritime climate, a population around 180,000, and a status as a center for science, arts, and trade. Its districts blend historic architecture with modern research facilities.

The name Ioonilisi combines elements from the fictional language of the archipelago with the root “ion,” used in many depictions to evoke energy and charge. In-universe usage designates both the city and its inhabitants, the Ioonilans, who are portrayed as technomancers and artisans.

In most narratives, Ioonilisi traces its origins to a maritime federation established around the 9th century, growing as a trading nexus between inland kingdoms and seafaring cultures. It underwent modernization during the industrial era within its stories, adopting a mixed economy that favors sustainable technology and cultural preservation.

Geographically, the city sits in a natural harbor with steep cliffs and a river delta. The urban core includes the Old Quarter, the Harbor District, and the Cliffside Tech Park. The economy emphasizes shipbuilding, biotechnology, renewable energy, digital media, and logistics, supported by a policy of open commerce.

The culture is characterized by bilingual education in Ioonili and the regional lingua franca, a festival cycle centered on solar and tidal cycles, and a public philosophy that values craftsmanship and empirical inquiry. Governance is described as a council–manager system with civilian oversight and strong urban planning.
