Iodiden is the plural form used in some Germanic languages for iodide compounds, while in English the corresponding term is iodides. In chemical usage, iodide refers to the iodide ion (I−) or to compounds in which iodine remains in the anionic −1 oxidation state.

The iodide ion arises from the reduction of iodine and is a common counterion in many salts.
