inovuese

Inovuese is a fictional constructed language (conlang) used in speculative fiction and world-building projects. It is designed to convey the culture and environment of the imagined Inovu people. As a constructed language, Inovuese is not a natural language and has no native speakers outside its fictional context.

Origins and development: The language was created by linguist Dr. Lene Arat in 2008 for the Inovu Chronicles, a multimedia project that includes novels and role-playing games. The name is said to derive from a core term in the fiction meaning "new language."

Phonology and writing: Inovuese has a vowel inventory /a e i o u/ and a consonant set including /p t k m n s l r f h j w/. Syllables are typically (C)(C)V(C); stress falls on the penultimate syllable. The writing system uses a Latin alphabet with occasional diacritics in teaching materials to mark vowel length or tone.

Grammar: The basic word order is subject–verb–object. Nouns have no gender; plural is marked with the suffix -ar. Adjectives follow nouns and agree in number. Verbs are not marked for person; tense is indicated by pre-verbal particles: pa- past, ta- present, fu- future. Aspect and mood rely on adpositional phrases and particles.

Usage and reception: Inovuese appears primarily in fiction, game materials, and language-learning resources within world-building communities. It has a small but active following among readers and players who study its grammar and vocabulary to deepen immersion in the Inovu setting.
