Innerverad is a Swedish medical term used to describe tissues or organs that receive nerve supply. The English equivalent is innervated. The term is applied to describe how the nervous system connects to body structures and enables function through nerve input.

In anatomy, innervation is commonly categorized as somatic or autonomic. Somatic innervation refers to nerve connections that control voluntary movement and convey sensory information from the skin and skeletal muscles. Autonomic innervation involves involuntary regulation of organs and glands through the sympathetic and parasympathetic branches of the nervous system, influencing functions such as heart rate, digestion, and glandular secretion.

Examples of innervated tissues include skeletal muscles, which are innerverad by motor neurons that originate in the spinal cord and brainstem; the skin, which carries a dense network of sensory nerves; and the heart and many glands, which receive autonomic innervation that modulates activity without conscious effort.

Clinical relevance centers on denervation, the loss of nerve supply due to injury or disease, which can cause weakness, atrophy, or impaired function. Reinnervation, when nerves regrow or are surgically repaired, can restore function to varying degrees. Mapping innervation patterns aids diagnosis, guides treatment planning, and enhances understanding of organ physiology.
