This system is primarily concerned with preventing and managing infectious diseases within the Icelandic healthcare system. In Infektionstiltag, flagging hospital visits as actually or potentially due to infectious diseases would classify an individual's contact with the healthcare system as an "infektionstiltag". This label is applied if symptoms suggest a high risk of transmission to others, prompting a brief bodily sampling and evaluation.

It is applied retrospectively, evaluating a given period when actually getting one such treatment actually counts each time a patient has gone in, again classifying the patients seen that day as likely an ascending pathogen risk; thus set identifying particular times those Icelanders considered glimp participation might introduce double or insist sensible.
