Indskudsgarantiordningen is Denmark’s deposit guarantee scheme, designed to protect depositors in the event that a bank becomes insolvent. The scheme guarantees deposits held in Danish-licensed credit institutions up to a set limit per depositor and per institution, helping to maintain financial stability and public confidence.

The guarantee covers cash deposits in ordinary bank accounts, savings accounts and time deposits. It does not extend to investment products, shares, bonds, funds or other non-deposit financial instruments. The protection applies to deposits belonging to natural persons and, depending on national rules, small businesses, and is typically calculated per depositor per bank. If you hold deposits in more than one bank, each bank’s deposits are insured up to the limit, but the limit is not combined across banks.

The guarantee limit is currently set at 100,000 euros (or the Danish kroner equivalent) per depositor for each credit institution. In a bank failure, the guarantor aims to make payments of guaranteed amounts promptly, often within seven working days after the decision to wind up the institution, subject to procedures and verification.

The scheme is financed by contributions from the participating credit institutions and is administered under Danish financial supervision, in line with EU deposit guarantee requirements. It operates within the framework of the European Union directive on deposit guarantees, adapted to Danish law and practice. Depositors who believe they are eligible or who have questions about a nearby institution should consult the relevant supervisory authority or the guarantee scheme’s official resources for guidance and claim procedures.
