Indo-Fijians, or indofijianos in Spanish-language sources, are Fiji's ethnic group of Indian origin. They descend mainly from indentured laborers brought by the British to work on sugar plantations during 1879–1916. Large numbers came from Awadh, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh, establishing communities in coastal towns and inland settlements. They retained many Indian cultural and religious practices, adapting them to Fiji's social context.
