Indebærer is a term used in Danish law to denote the holder or bearer of a bearer instrument, such as a check, promissory note, or bond that is payable to bearer. The indebærer is the person who possesses the instrument and, by presenting it, is entitled to demand payment or delivery from the issuer or from the party obligated under the instrument.

Transfer and rights

For bearer instruments, transfer of the indebærer status occurs by delivery alone, without the need for endorsement. Whoever possesses the instrument under the terms of a bearer instrument generally has the right to enforce the obligation against the issuer, subject to any defenses the issuer can raise against the bearer.
