imák

Imák are prayers in the Hungarian language, referring to fixed or spontaneous expressions of worship, petition, or gratitude used in religious practice. The term ima comes from Latin oratio, entering Hungarian church vocabulary through centuries of Christian worship. Imák are commonly found in prayer books and hymnals and are used in liturgy, catechesis, and everyday life.

Prayers vary in length and form. Some are liturgical texts recited by groups, such as the Lord’s Prayer and the Hail Mary in Catholic contexts, while others are short personal invocations.
