Iminederived is a term used in organic chemistry to describe compounds that are formed through the reaction of an amine with a carbonyl compound, typically an aldehyde or a ketone, followed by dehydration. This reaction, known as imine formation or Schiff base formation, results in the creation of a carbon-nitrogen double bond (C=N). The general structure of an imine is R1R2C=NR3, where R1 and R2 can be hydrogen or alkyl/aryl groups, and R3 is an alkyl or aryl group.
The process of imine formation is reversible and often catalyzed by acid. The initial step involves the
