iluzie

Iluzie is a Romanian noun meaning illusion: a perception, appearance, or belief that does not correspond to external reality. In everyday language it can refer to optical phenomena as well as to figurative hopes or deceptive appearances. The word derives from Latin illusio, via French illusion, into Romanian.

In psychology and neuroscience, an illusion is a misperception that occurs when sensory input is real but interpreted in a distorted way by the brain. Illusions contrast with delusions—the persistence of mistaken beliefs despite contrary evidence—and with hallucinations, perceptions without external stimuli. Illusory perception arises from interactions between bottom-up sensory signals and top-down expectations, attention, and context. Causes include lighting, contrast, perspective cues, and cognitive biases.

Visual illusions are the most studied type and include geometric-optical illusions (length or angle misperceptions), motion illusions (apparent movement in static images), and color/brightness illusions. Auditory and tactile illusions also occur, revealing the multisensory nature of perception.
